Know the Levels (level areas)

I don't think I can express enough the importance of understanding where price is in relation to it's ATR (average true range) and major support or resistance levels.  Had a good conversation about TSLA today. We discussed the earnings and scored the earnings report (recalled what score was given - I think a -7/-7.5) which is borderline not tradeable. From what I remember it wasn't horrible but Musk was pretty negative.  Anyway the stock went down for two days and today it found itself down into a support level that was scored a 9/10 (pretty darn high). Not only was it down to the level (about 200) but the stock was down almost exactly 5 ATR (I believe from the earnings and 1 atr from Friday close). So in my experience. If a stock is coming into a strong support level even if it's not an ATR away from a high or low of intraday trading, the price will fail from that level the first time. Besides this, the market was acting in the same manner which always adds strength to a play. An example of this was that I shorted RVMD in the morning but as it slowed down and the overall market was up it just makes me want to find plays on the long side because you are more likely to find strength in that direction. Interestingly the SPY and IWM bounced of their VWAPs at about the same time that RMVD stopped it's decline (probably telling us that if there was to be more then it should have failed).  I want to stop with this because one of the ideas that I've developed is that you must understand that the rules are probabilities, and understanding that everything is probabilistic is key. Even with everything lined up, it does not mean it will work. It may mean you have a 65% chance at first and then when something else goes in your favor, the probability may go up to 72% or something. Even if the probability gets higher, it does not mean that the trade will do better or go higher or even work. For this reason stops are essential. Alright that's all for now. Gotta get in some exercise. What are some general rules that you see in the market? Like trades in the direction of the market trend usually provide the best opportunities. Cheers.
