Thinking in Bets by Annie Duke - Ideas for trading
So I was recommended this book by another trader and it's a good one. There are many good points in the book and I'm not going to over all of them. In fact, I'm not going to go over very many of them at all. Generally, I just want to say that it's a good book and if you don't have a grasp of risk reward and the thought processes that go into making good statistically based decisions and understanding how something that may be statistically improbable may still occur, but lucky for traders we have many opportunities, so we don't need to worry too much about those occasions when the statistically improbable occurs - that is if you're smart and protect yourself! Stop WHAT! What's great about this is that often as traders we can have a fairly low win rate, but if we are playing the game correctly, when we win, we win and cover any losses and beyond. This seems to be a reoccurring theme in the "Unknown Market Wizards" book - losing small amounts and then letting the big ones be big. As far as "Thinking in Bets" goes, there's not much about trading per se but pretty much everything is applicable to traders or investors. She spends quite a bit of time talking about the mental aspects the people go through while making decisions or when given events occur and how people may react. It's full of interesting stories that show the application of the points she's making and the sections are fairly short, which makes the read pretty quick. I love the idea that we are basically constantly thinking in bets, but often don't even realize it. Great book! I'll probably read it again. But right now I'm re-reading "Best Loser Wins" by Tom Hougaard and the Market Wizards books. Have any books on trading that you've read more than once or twice? Cheers!
