How you trade. (?)

Let's see... I was reading "Unknown Market Wizards" today and listening to some youtube video and it was just making me think about my own trades and the kind of trades that I look for. In the book it was talking about using technical analysis or fundamental analysis and in this case the trader used them both. This is the way that I think is best.  I like to kind of use the fundamental analysis to guide technical analysis, but in the end price is king and you can't get biased.  The video I watched was about knowing what kind of trade you're getting into - a scalp (shortest), a move to move (not quite so long), and a trade2hold (which is get in and letting trend for you). Each one requires different exit strategies, but you can really use the same entry strategy on all of them, but you don't want to change from one kind of trade to another - I think I talked about that already.  I like the idea of taking profits as a trade is working out for you, but I also think that to some extent you can leave some on and hope with a winner. At least 5-20% (20% ish if you're already up pretty good for a while and aren't as worried about losing profits). The reason I think it's ok to hold onto some when you may be up for the month is because I agree with Tom Hougaard who says we should hope with our winners and cut losers quickly, rather than what humans tend to do, which is take profits quickly and hope for your losers to turn around. Many times things do turn around, but what I've found is that if I wait for something to come back, I'm quick to get out at about even so I don't make anything and just waisted a bunch of time and mental capital for a goose egg. And those losers that I hope on and don't come back to break even or small gains...well...they are my worst trades. How much nicer is it when you make some, take some profits and then let the rest run and it just keeps going and you end up making as much off of the last bit as you did with the rest of that you cut "early"! (not necessarily early if you were scalping or move to moving and your exit strategy said to exit).  Alright, life calls. Cheers!
