Technology is important

So I believe that you can have a technological edge in trading.  Do I think that I have an edge because of it? Probably not. But I think I do benefit from understanding what I'm using and learning to develop technology that can aid me in my trading. An example of this is learning what setups are best for trades that you like. Figure the variables that you want to see and then create scanner for those things. I was watching a couple stocks today and didn't catch the moves the way that I wanted to and then they slowed down. I guess I could have sat and just watched them, but instead I turned to my scanners and looked for a setup that I liked from those scanners that usually provide me with stocks that are setting up in a way that I like to see for certain trades. And it worked today. Actually I don't use them all that often, but I have them for days like today when I want/need to turn to something else that will offer up a good risk/reward. So how have I gone about creating these scanners? Well, when there is a trade I like, I look at it and decide what is unique about it and start troubleshooting on creating scanners that pick up stocks doing similar or the same thing. This often takes quite a bit of "optimization" but eventually you get it to where it does what you want it to. I also think that in using technology we are given an opportunity to grow - for example I am learning coding bit by bit because I think it is important to understand and I think it would be pretty cool to be partly automatized or at least run some system and know how to change it. Anyway, technology can surely be an edge. And I don't think it needs to be the best technology necessarily - it definitely helps - but just understanding and utilizing what you have and finding/stretching the bounds is what needs to be done. Alrighty. Have a great day or night wherever you are. Cheers!
