Weekends and Staying in Rhythm
Weekends...hmm. I'm thinking about weekends because it's a Monday and going into the day i was feeling just ok. I had a good week last week and over the weekend I felt like I may have lost the groove. So I was thinking what I could do to make sure that I don't lose the groove over the weekend and maybe on Monday feel more like I'm following up from Friday only completely refreshed. I think this topic applies for after holidays or trips as well. I also believe that coming out of a weekend funk is different than trying to regroup after a string of bad trading or losses. I'm sure there are similarities but after the weekend you are really trying for a "continuation play" not a reversal in your trading. There is a time and place for that as mentioned. I'm free for any ideas or methods that you use to keep in the rhythm over the weekend or just when Monday rolls around. My ideas are as follows. Saturday review trades and read tape. Sunday review trades and read tape. Read news and books as you normally would. Maybe even do some paper trading. Take note of the things that you were doing well because those are likely things that you need to continue doing. We have to remember that we don't only have to learn from our mistakes but it is a great practice to study the things that are done well too! Focusing on the good reaps more of the same. There's a phrase that's something like - When you focus on the good, the good gets better! Yes! As for Monday, I think that you ought to have a morning routine. And I don't think it needs to vary much if at all from any other day's routine. Having a routine will in itself get you into your trading "mode." I, for example, wake up and go for a walk, pray, meditated, watch some youtube to relax a little, brush teeth, drink water, check the market for what I like and choose a couple to follow - I may already have ideas over the weekend or Friday- , have a meeting, set out some plans, note key information on the day (I have a daily preparation sheet), and then trade. Some important elements in there are make sure I go to the bathroom before the bell so there's no unnecessarily added pressure. Also, I pretty much always trade with a had on. It's kind of like my thinking cap. The cap goes on, headphones over cap, and I'm trading in the zone - It's all business. I also make sure I'm recording my screens because I go back and review tape of my recordings. I just load the video up to my youtube channel at the end of the day and will go and watch them there. Back to the weekends. As hard as it is there has to be some kind of balance. You want to have fun and relax on the weekend, but you shouldn't be staying up all night and really getting your body out of whack - at least that's what I think and try to do. That's all for now I guess. I think you just have to be a little careful on Mondays or after holidays and maybe ease yourself into your trading a bit. I guess it all really depends on how you feel, but you have to note how you feel and know how to work with your state of being. Any weekend rituals that keep you in the game? Cheers!
